International

The Club continues to support, take an interest in, and have an involvement with a number of International projects:

End Polio Now

polio_2

For the last 25 years, rotary has been working hard to rid the world of polio - a terrible disease that can kill or severely disable children.   Today, this disease, which used to kill and maim even in this country, is now mainly confined to Inida, Pakistan, Afganistan and Nigeria, where it is still endemic - and we are now tantalisingly close to achieving our aim.   in 2009 the Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates challenged Rotary to march fund by June 2012, the $200 million that he has donated the organisation.      To coincide with the 2011 campaign, we are planting purple crocus bulbs in Tolworth Junior school and King Athelstan Primary School.   Why purple - it is the tiny dab of colour on a child's little finger that indicates the child has been innoculated against the deadly virus.

Vision Aid

The Club are active in collecting redundant spectacles that are sent to a sorting centre for onward distribution to third world countries. Here, qualified opticians match the specs to those that have sight problems to bring about a much needed improvement to their quality of life

Water Aid
